Finish Strong

Distractions are everywhere and many folks find themselves battling the black hole of unproductivity.

Your attention has probably been hi-jacked by any of the following:

  • Various social media platforms

  • Dance challenge videos from internet comedians

  • Sharing memes

  • Click-bait headlines

  • Scrolling through the OnDemand guide on the television

  • The news

  • Folks who want you to care about the idiotic, hateful behavior permeating the country

  • This blog, perhaps

You name it, distractions exist.

You know what also exists? Your unfinished project. I don't know what it is about the ever-present resistance inside of us, but I do know that you can't be successful nor change the world with your art if you're not actively creating.

Now, I know I'm using second-person "you" in this post, but the fact remains that I'm really talking about myself. In my mind I am fulfilling my dreams, conquering the world one book at a time, but in actuality I'm battling my own resistance.

So how do I break out of it? It really is simple: sit down somewhere and work. Turn everything off, block everything out, and work. I understand that's easier said than done, but done is the operative word.

Finish strong.
