This year I attended the Stay Ready Conference featuring motivational speaker of the hip hop generation, Dr. Eric Thomas. If you haven't seen this man live, you don't know what you're missing.
Pure energy, honest, and down-to-earth, Thomas (affectionately known as ET) has his own way of delivering powerful, uplifting messages about walking in our gifts, living a life of passion, and being of humble service to others.
I had such an amazing time meeting different people, especially those in Breathe University, an online network of like-minded individuals who gather for mastermind calls, local meetups, and other business endeavors.
Since I am a note-taker, I'm going to recap the event with a few quotes that made lasting impressions on me as I sat, watched, and listened to the wisdom of four speakers: Inky Johnson, Jeremy Anderson, David Shands, and ET himself. (Special shout out to Willie Moore Jr., the awesome host!)
"If you make sure other people's lives are okay, God will make sure you life is okay."
"Some people's backup plan is greater than their first plan."
"Some of you have options. Our ancestors didn't have options. At what point do we honor those who sacrificed for us?" (<--THIS)
"I'll never let a situation or circumstance define my life."
"Adversity causes people to break or break records."
"WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU KNEW YOU COULDN'T FAIL?" (<--YES!!!)
"Always be grateful, but never settle."
"You need to let dead stuff go."
"Stop comparing yourself to other people."
"It looks ugly for a while but there's power in the journey."
"Stop leaving room for error."
"If you want to be successful you must be willing to go through the pain."
"You're an author, write your story. Just don't get stuck in one chapter."
"Put something on your goal. Make a bet."
"Be willing to lose something."
"The unwillingness to bet is rooted in fear."
"Most people give up when they encounter resistance."
"Always launch something you're excited about."
"Be a millionaire before the money comes so you can keep it."
"I don't deal with feelings because feelings change."
"The word of the day is make. To stay ready means to make oneself prepared."
"We are not reactive but proactive."
"You must call something to come about that didn't exist before."
"You don't need anything else. You have enough to make whatever you want to make happen now." (<--That's it!)
"If you don't have the right people in your space, you will be limited in your success.
"You are no deeper than the people you're running with."
"You will go no further than your right hand. If your two-man ain't totally committed, ya'll will end up competing." (<--FIRE!)
"Let your past go!"
I urge each and every one of you to check out Dr. Eric Thomas's conferences. You will be blessed, encouraged, and moved to act on your dreams. I'm just saying, the energy in the room is infectious. I should know. A few of us even had our own little party to ourselves. It didn't matter who was watching or who was thinking what. It reminded me of life.
Some people throw caution to the wind and jump in. Some people just sit on the sidelines and watch. I'm going to live life. I'm going all in.
