44. Getting Back on Track

The moment I decided I wanted to pitch to literary agents and seek the traditional publishing route, I've been off track.

Instead of finishing my website, tightening up my manuscript, and checking action items off of my beginning of the year list, I've been sidetracked. I'm stalking agents on twitter, studying authors and their books, and not even focusing on my own writing. Oh, and by the way, I'm dragging my feet on tightening my manuscript after realizing that I'm dealing with one major plot hole. *sigh* If only I had beta readers.

So how do I get back on track? In what way do I add structure to my highly structured persona? Simple: Go back to the execution list.

Beginning of the Year Execution List. See that deadline I've already missed?

Beginning of the Year Execution List. See that deadline I've already missed?

An execution list is, in essence, a to do list. Deadlines are attached to the list which helps me to see how I'm spending my time. I can tell you right now that there're at least 2 bulleted items whose deadline I didn't meet. Not to mention, the deadline that's now approaching is far from being done.

Whether I'm pursuing a traditional or self-publishing route I'm still dedicated to:

  • Create an online presence, including finishing my new site

  • Write articles for an online community (at least once a week)

  • Rework my manuscript until I've filled the hole in my plot

  • Continue blogging about my launch a bestseller process

It's time to focus. Take things one step at a time.
