I remember as clear as day when the words of Hot Like Fire!! wouldn't come out. It was Summer '16, and I was working through the 2015-2016 regular school year teaching summer school, attending endless teacher trainings, and taking online tech courses.
There were times when I wouldn't write for 3 or 4 days straight. There were also moments where I simply "didn't feel like" writing, although I knew the novel had to be done. I remember telling myself, "I need some motivation."
Those four words changed my life.
I went to YouTube looking for random inspirational videos until I came across an account called ET The Hip Hop Preacher. I watched one video and was HOOKED. I felt like he was talking to me. I felt like I wasn't pushing myself hard enough, not waking up early enough, not putting 120% into making my dreams become a reality.
That's when I saw changes:
Instead of waking up at 6 o'clock in the morning, I started waking up at 4
I would work for two hours on my writing before going to work
I wrote or read something EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I did not go days without working on my project, and if I felt like one chapter was taking me longer than normal, I would read, outline, or write through the challenge.
I STOPPED WATCHING TV. (<--- This has been a life-changer all by itself. I've learned that the television, or telling lies to your vision as my 10th grade teacher would tell me, has been nothing but a distraction.)
I didn't engage in mind-numbing debates with folks who are not productive
I refused to hang around people who complained, murmured, or didn't have much going on in their life
I spent time with productive people, especially those in a mastermind group, elevating each other to greatness.
I attended business type conferences and seminars
