Dickens on the Strand: A Writing Inspiration

If you're not from the Galveston or greater Houston area you may not know about a festival  called Dickens on the Strand. In a nutshell, it's a "Victorian Holiday" that recognizes the literary giant Charles Dickens as well as the 19th century.

I was first introduced to Dickens on the Strand when I was around 12 or 13 years old and, as a book nerd, I looked forward to the festival. I liked:

  • The history (I love classic/historical type events)

  • The Victorian-styled costumes

  • The vendors (the hot chocolate and funnel cakes are so good!)

  • The bag-pipers

  • The arts and crafts

To be honest, the Dickens on the Strand has inspired my next book: a paranormal mystery. After all, Galveston, TX is known for its hauntings and ghosts. Could you imagine combining that with the festival? I cannot wait.

How I'm going to look for Dickens on the Strand 2017. We kind of look related a little bit.

To all you folks who get to attend DOTS this weekend, I am jealous. I just love the atmosphere, the smiles, the history, and all the writing material around me. For sure I'm going next year, dressed like one of these beauties:
